Gottfried von der Goltz, who studied at the Juilliard School in New York and with Rainer Kussmaul at the Freiburg University of Music, among others, became a member of the NRD Symphony Orchestra Hamburg at the age of 21. In 1987, the violinist founded the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra with like-minded musicians, and he remains its artistic director to this day. He has earned a reputation as a specialist, particularly through his CD recordings of the long-forgotten music of the Dresden Baroque and the four sons of Bach. In addition to his performances with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, he works as a soloist and guest conductor with ensembles such as the Berliner Barock Solisten and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. He holds a professorship for Baroque and modern violin at the Freiburg University of Music.
