Building on his classical instrumental training at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, Jonas Urbat is constantly seeking new ways to capture the richness of everyday environments and transform them into raw material for sound, composition and expression.
Jonas Urbat has composed and performed original works for live electronics and orchestra for, among others, the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra Chemnitz, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
For his project SoundWERK, he composes soundtracks for numerous factories using their own sounds and transforms them into electromechanical instruments through installation art. In 2019, he was recognised for this work as a Culture and Creative Pilot by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, and in 2023 he received the German Business Film Award.
In participatory projects, he served as musical director for the UFO at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, staging a concert with over 100 singers from Düsseldorf. Together with school pupils from Bremen and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, he created music for the District Opera East Bremen 2025.
To broaden his horizons as an artist, Jonas Urbat meets musicians across Europe with his studio van as @InTubaWild.
As co-founder of the Stegreif Orchestra, he gained experience in the choreography and performance of classical composition, improvisation, space and movement. He works with bands, ensembles and orchestras to unite various forms of artistic expression.
