Nico Gutu studied accordion in Weimar, France, Italy and Moldovia. Since 2019, he has been studying jazz and improvisation at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover as the only accordionist in Germany.
He has worked with well-known artists such as Sharon Kam, Corinna Eikmeier, and Daniel Garcia and undertook interdisciplinary collaborations with the Théâtre à Tempo, the Theater Bonn and musicians from orchestras such as the WDR Sinfonieorchester and the NDR Radiophilharmonie, amongst others. As a soloist, he played with the Orchestra della Calabria, at the Heidelberger Frühling, at the Berliner Philharmonie, and at numerous concerts worldwide.
Nico Gutu develops his own concert formats, in which he also acts as dramaturge and director. His performance »Pace mia Terra« premiered in 2025 at the OheFestival while the work »Parcul« was commissioned by the Banatul Philharmonic in Timișoara, Romania. These projects are always rooted in an expanded and questioning understanding of ›classical music‹ and the ›concert‹ format.
Gutu is a prize-winner of international competitions, including First Prize at the Deutscher Akkorderonmusikpreis and the DAAD Prize. He shares his expertise with younger generations through masterclasses, workshops, and his work as a juror at international competitions.
