The German-French Trio d’Iroise was formed by Sophie Pantzier, François Lefèvre and Johann Caspar Wedell during the Rencontres Musicales d’Iroise chamber music festival in Brittany in the summer of 2017. After just a few months of rehearsals, they won the highly sought-after scholarship at the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb (German Music Competition) final in March 2018. They also received an invitation to perform at the Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler (Federal Selection of Concerts for Young Artists) and won the Marie-Luise Imbusch Foundation special prize. Since then, they have performed in concerts throughout Germany and abroad, including in France, Italy and Saudi Arabia. They also regularly perform at renowned chamber music festivals such as Beethovenfest Bonn, Heidelberger Frühling and European Music Weeks Passau.
Their repertoire includes not only famous classics of string trio literature, but also lost, unknown, or specially commissioned works. To this end, they are in regular contact with the descendants of lesser-known composers. Additionally, their collaboration with arranger Malte Schiller has resulted in arrangements of traditional Syrian music for Syrian instruments (such as the oud and kanun) and string trio.
From 2018 to 2020, the trio studied for a Master’s degree in chamber music at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media under Prof. Oliver Wille.
Sophie Pantzier and François Lefèvre are members of the NDR Radiophilharmonie, while Caspar Wedell is the ensemble reflektor’s principal cellist.
